Cookie Categories
LiteConsent organizes cookies into categories that visitors can individually accept or reject. Each site comes with five built-in categories, and you can add custom ones.
Built-in categories
| Category | Slug | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | necessary | Essential cookies required for the site to function. Always enabled, cannot be rejected. |
| Analytics | analytics | Cookies used to measure site traffic and understand visitor behavior. |
| Preferences | preferences | Cookies that enable enhanced features like live chat, videos, or personalization. |
| Marketing | marketing | Cookies used for advertising, retargeting, and tracking across sites. |
| Social Media | social | Cookies set by social media embeds and sharing buttons. |
Custom categories
You can create additional categories in the dashboard under your site's configuration. Each custom category needs a unique slug, a display name, and a description. Custom categories appear in the preferences panel alongside the built-in ones.
CCPA do-not-sell mapping
Under CCPA, visitors can opt out of the "sale" of their personal information. In LiteConsent, you can mark specific categories as involving a "sale" of data (Marketing and Social Media are flagged ccpa_sale=true by default). When a California visitor opts out via the do-not-sell action, LiteConsent saves consent with only the non-sale categories (those where ccpa_sale=false). The sale-flagged categories are excluded entirely.
Configure this per-category in the dashboard by toggling the "Involves sale of personal data" option on each category.
